Blanke Securmat Tile Underlayment

Blanke Securmat is a tear-proof uncoupling tile underlayment membrane that provides a secure bonding surface for ceramic tile and natural stone installations. Blanke Securmat can be used on both interior floors and walls. Securmat also provides superior crack isolation protection. If the substrate may be subject to lateral movement of any kind, the crack isolation properties will help protect and prevent damage to the tile covering.

Securmat is just 1/25" thick, but don't let that fool you.  It was given a "extra heavy" rating for high impact use by the Tile Council of North America.  In addition, the fact that it is so thin means that less thinset mortar is need in the installation.  That is sure to save you a few bucks.

Features:
  • Low elevation
  • Easy to cut and install
  • Uses less thinset than other uncoupling products
  • Provides uncoupling crack isolation properties
  • Approved for wood and cement substrates
  • Approved for use with modified thinset mortar
  • Approved for all tile sizes including mosaics
Blanke Securmat is available in a 134.5 square foot roll on Tileprotection.com.  Blanke Securmat is 1/25" thick.  This roll measures 3.28' wide x 41' long.

Ditra Old School

So what's replaced Ditra.? Well, it did not really get "replaced", it just got left behind by updated technology.

Ditra tile underlayment was EASILY "replaced" by several tile underlayments.

The first one we'll give you insight on is Prova Tile Underlayment.

ProVa Flex is a multi-functional polypropylene membrane used as an underlay for ceramic tiles and natural stone. It acts as an uncoupling membrane on all suitable substrates and as a water vapor pressure equalization membrane against dampness in the substrate. ProVa Flex protects against dampness in the substrate and is ready to tile immediately after installation.

Benefits:

Uncoupling
ProVa Flex is a separation layer between tile and substrate, which prevents stress transfer to the tile surface. If the substrate were to shift or move at all, ProVa Flex is there to bridge cracks that may develop in the substrate from this shifting or movement. In other words, a crack caused by movement in the substrate is now completely neutralized and will not be transferred to the floor covering.

Equalizes Vapor Pressure
Air channels beneath the ProVa Flex remain open to allow any moisture in the substrate to evaporate. Essentially, these air channels are letting things breathe. However, Joint Strip must be used to maintain a continuous barrier.

Polypropylene
Polypropylene is impermeable against building chemicals. The polypropylene properties of the ProVa Flex make it easy to install and allow it to lay flatter than a tile underlayment made of polyethylene.

Workability
ProVa Flex is tough yet pliable. Its ability to bend around corners without breaking or creasing makes installation quite easy. ProVa Flex can be cut with a knife or scissors, and its unique profile design and inter-woven polypropylene netting material works to increase surface area. This makes for a stronger bond between underlay and tile.
Suitable Substrates:
•Concrete
•Concrete Screeds incorporating heating systems
•Wood Based plywood or OSB
•Synthetic flooring and surface coatings
•Gypsum based (anhydrite) screeds
•Bituminous Screed

Announcing our Parting with Ditra

After many years of selling the Schluter line of tile installation products, we are announcing our separation with the line.
We've dealt with the Product line for many years, but with price increases, and lack of support from Schluter on their end for sales and just basic customer service, we have decided to move on.

For years now we have been supplying Blanke products to our local installers and to all our customers on our daily delivery routes. Not that Schluter is a bad product, but Blanke has stood up for us. Every single installer that has used Blanke products has never gone back to their previous underlayment line regardless of what it was.

Good luck even finding Ditra in our market place, our area is a Blanke neighborhood.

In all honesty, getting our local installers and stores to use Blanke Products was very simple...people buy from people. Someone missed that lesson in life.....

Over the last several years, Schluter has made selling their product real hard. Applying all their tactics to control pricing. Is Schluter a bad product? Not at all, but Blanke is just as good, if not better on the underlayments, which by the way allow you to use Modified Thinset.... and the tile metals...you would not know the difference.

One thing is completely clear, anything Schluter can do, Blanke can do...only they want it more... I put my companies trust into Blanke, with the entire time keeping you, the installer and end user in mind as well.

My father installs, at age 57. He does it because he loves his family, and is a proud man. All my life I've watched the vendors get rich off him. Increasing pricing, while installation pay remained the same.

So, that being said, it’s hard for me to see a company like Schluter put so much effort into not having their products readily available for the average installer at a profitable price for them on the resale to their customers.

They really think you are all going to walk into your local distributor and buy all your stuff there....or maybe Mrs. Smith will run to a store and buy a Schluter Kit...they won't....they won't.

Give Blanke a try, the only thing that will be different is your thicker pocket book. They have warranties and stand behind their products just like everyone else.
